Hiring rarely slows evenly. Some teams freeze while others quietly expand, and the gap between the two is where most of the opportunity sits. Looking at what employers actually posted this quarter is a better guide than any forecast.
The clearest movement was in operations and support roles, which grew while headline engineering hiring stayed flat. Employers who had over-hired in one direction spent the quarter correcting in another.
What the listings tell us
Roles that named a salary attracted more applications than those that did not, by a wide margin. That held true across every category, and it held true even where the range offered was unremarkable. Candidates are not only comparing numbers; they are reading the willingness to state one as a signal about the employer.
“We stopped writing “competitive salary” and applications went up by half. Nothing else about the advert changed.”
Dana Whitfield
If you are searching now, widen the job titles you watch rather than the locations. Titles drift between companies far more than the work does, and the role you want is often listed under a name you have not thought to look for.
